Product - Fractional Insurance

Enroll once. Covered instantly, every assignment after.

Contractors enroll once, in under a minute. After that, every assignment they take is covered instantly - priced against their actual pay, never an annual estimate. It all runs through one API call.

What it does

Coverage that maps to actual work.

Three building blocks. Every per-engagement coverage decision your platform makes is one of them.

Premium scales to gross pay

WC, GL, Professional Liability, and Cyber are priced as a rate against the contractor's gross pay on each assignment. Media Liability is the exception - billed per shoot day, since production liability tracks the schedule, not contractor pay.

Multi-state, per-assignment rates

Each assignment routes to the correct WC class code by work_state. Multi-state contractors get the right rate per assignment, scaled to the pay for that work.

Per-engagement COI

Blanket additional insured added at bind time - default on every COI, not a manual per-project add-on. The customer-of-record gets a COI in their name before the work begins.

Step 1 - Enroll once

Contractors enroll in under a minute.

We host the application at apply.1099policy.com. The contractor gets the URL, verifies their information, reviews the quote, and accepts. Three screens, no insurance jargon, no broker portal.

Step 2 - Every assignment after

Then coverage is instant.

Once a contractor is enrolled, dispatch is a single API call. POST /v1/assignments with the contractor, job, work_state, and effective_date - coverage binds instantly, with no quote to accept and no application to re-file. The contractor does nothing.

See the API reference ->
Coverage Windows

Windows that match the work.

Coverage starts when the job starts and ends when it ends - whether that's a film shoot, a live event, or a signed statement of work. The effective_date and end_date track the actual engagement, not the calendar.

An annual policy charges a full year of premium even when the contractor works only a handful of days. Fractional charges premium scaled to actual pay on each assignment - with one exception: Media Liability is billed per shoot day, since production liability tracks the schedule, not crew pay.

Fractional pricing

Per assignment, not per year.

An annual policy charges $4,200 regardless of work volume. Fractional charges $14.20 - about 5.3% of the contractor's gross pay for this assignment, scaled to the right WC class code and state.

Audit trail

Audit-ready by default.

Every bind, every COI, every premium calc archived indefinitely. When the carrier audit lands, the production accountant pulls a defense file in one click - every assignment, contractor, state, and dollar of gross pay it was scaled against.

FAQ

Common questions before integration.

No. A contractor enrolls once, then every assignment they take can bind through the Assignments API without another form or application.

Premium is rated against the contractor's gross pay for the assignment. When the assignment closes, the record reconciles against actual pay instead of an annual estimate.

Media Liability follows the production schedule, so it is priced per shoot day. Other supported lines remain pay-based.

If cancellation happens before the effective date, the assignment voids and no premium is charged. After the effective date, partial premium can apply based on the work performed.

It is a standard ACORD certificate with the contractor as named insured, the customer-of-record as additional insured, and a coverage window that matches the assignment.

An uncovered contractor is your exposure. Every assignment covered the moment work starts.
